Rountree Branch Trail in Platteville Hosts Grand Opening

A grand opening ceremony was held tonight for the David Canny Rountree Branch Trail, celebrating the completion of a project that required hundreds of hours of volunteer time and $1.47 million in cash contributions.

20160915_174922Runde Auto Group is proud to have supported the 3-mile paved and lighted trail and we were excited to see our name on a plaque at the beginning of the trail and on the 1-mile marker!

About 100 people attended the grand opening, which included a ribbon-cutting. Speakers noted how important a trail system is to the quality of life for area residents, but also for economic development in the area.

“This is one of the top amenities that people look for when looking to move to a community — is there a trail infrastructure,” said Drew Nussbaum, of the Wisconsin Department of Tourism. “Is there somewhere I can go outside and get some fresh air?”

Along the trail, there are gardens, a gazebo, benches, artistic bike racks, and historical kiosks. Tornado-damaged trees were removed, trail-side invasives were reduced, and the trail connection to Main Street was begun.

State Senator Mark Miller was in attendance, and said he was happy to suppo20160915_173245rt the trail.

“Congratulations on the completion of an outstanding project,” he said. “It’s easy for me to support grant applications like this one where the wind is at our back and the community is rallying behind it.”

A portion of the trail, from the UW-Platteville campus to Mineral Street, was dedicated to
David Canny, whose idea it was to create the trail. He passed away in 2010. His wife, Karen, spoke at the ceremony.

“In David’s own words before he passed away, ‘This is what a wonderful community can do working together toward one man’s dreams,'” Karen said.

A Belmont-to-Platteville trail will connect to this one in the future.

The project was made possible through a team including the Platteville Community Arboretum, Platteville Community Fund, Building Platteville, the City of Platteville, and more than 1,500 donors.

Runde Chevrolet Buick GMC in Platteville is proud to welcome its newest salesperson, Tony Lucey!

Tony, who is from Cuba City, WI, worked in the radiology department of a hospital for the past 13 years. He is excited to try something new.

“I have always been interested in car sales,” he said. “Many years ago when I began buying cars for my children and of course trucks for myself, I thought it would be a neat job as I love to meet and help people. I love the excitement that customers get when buying a new vehicle. Helping people to achieve something that makes them happy is a great feeling.”

He got a fast start, selling two cars in his first week!

“The first few weeks of being a salesperson have been awesome,” Tony said. “There is obviously a lot to learn, but I love the challenge. It is different from my last job because you are helping people to realize a dream.”

His favorite vehicle is the GMC Sierra 1500 because of its dependability and style.

In his spare time, Tony likes to fish, bow hunt, golf, and spend time with his family. He has three sons: one who lives at home, one who lives in Dubuque, and one who lives with his wife in Benton, WI.

Here’s a fun random fact about Tony:  His second cousin, Patrick J. Lucey, was the governor of Wisconsin from 1970-1977 and he ran as the Vice Presidential candidate with John Anderson during the 1980 election!

Tony is looking forward to his new career at Runde Auto Group and making the buying experience a pleasant one for all his customers.

“I think great customer service is the art of working with people and doing everything you can to help them, making the whole experience easy and enjoyable,” Tony said. “People remember great service and will always return, along with recommending that service to their friends and family.”
