Upcoming Chevy and Dodge Electric Cars Featured on The Today Show

This morning’s Today Show showcased the upcoming 2011 Chevrolet Volt and 2011 Dodge EV Electric Cars. They should be available sometime in 2010. Both will be in the $40,000 range, and can go 40 miles on electricity alone. That evens out to about 2 cents per mile. Most Americans don’t drive 40 miles a day if they live in a city and drive to work and home. Even if they have to pick up the kids from soccer practice and piano lessons, they should be under the 40 mile mark. But if they do have to travel farther, when using both gas and electricity, these cars can travel at least 300 miles without a recharge.

The Volt will plug into a regular home electrical socket, and has the capacity to be fully charged in between four and eight hours. Although, it will depend on how many miles between charges. The EV is a 268 horsepower sports car that can go 0-60 mph in under 6 seconds. It does have power, but without the rev of the engine.
